About Mick Anderson
While in college, Mick had the opportunity to work at St. Mary Lodge at the east entrance to Glacier National Park in Montana. It was in this magical place where he met several fellow students from other parts of the country who would change the direction of his life by introducing Mick to nature, the mountains, the guitar and singing, fly fishing, writing music, hiking, and -- most importantly -- the Single Lens Reflex camera! He had a chance to play with Pentacon, Yashica, Pentax, Nikon and other brands, leading cameras of the day. It opened up a whole new way of looking at the world, and started a hobby that quickly grew into a passion that has stood the test of many years. His first “real” camera was a Yashica “Electro-35”...

WOW!! What an amazing capture, color and the quote makes for a breathtaking shot!! ....did I say WOW?!! v/f and to FB

Athena Mckinzie
WOW!! what a great capture of lightning. I've tried many times and never got a bolt looking that good.
Mick Anderson replied:
I have been fairly successful at doing my lightning photography hand held! I set for a medium aperture and about 1/60 sec, then set my focus manually for infinity and point toward the part of the cloud where all the action is. A fast trigger finger is the last ingredient! There are other ways, but this works for me just enough that I get a few good shots, both day and night :) Good luck -- I want to see your successful shots!! ~M
Heidi Smith

That sounds like a neat photo. Lightning is so fun to take photos of. I go storm chasing alot. I got a tornado photo in Durham, ca. I love your photo. I keep going back to your photo a lot. Thanks for the comments. Thats neat that you live in chico
Mick Anderson replied:
I got a very small funnel out of the bottom of a big cumulus cloud along the foothills once a long time ago... would love to see your tornado shot!! :)
Abram House
awesome photo. Voted
Mick Anderson replied:
Abram, I got a lightning shot north of Chico a number of years ago that I still count as one of my best "good luck" photos... the bolt came straight from cloud to ground in the very center of my photograph! I may put that one up one day :)
Katie Wing Vigil
Beautiful! Not something we get to see a lot of here in Oregon. Nice job, Mick. Vote!
Mick Anderson replied:
Yes, I agree... not too much lightning in this state, but when it does erupt it does a great job!! This was one of several lighting storms that came through the valley this one night. :)
Anand Swaroop Manchiraju
Wonderful !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Mick Anderson replied:
Thank you Anand!! Believe it or not, I "hand hold" my lightning shots :)
Nick Boren
Your timing was great on this image Mick... a very nice shot of this bold of lighting.
Mick Anderson replied:
Timing is everything, for sure. I took this photo early in my digital experience -- my traditional "film" approach was to catch the best shot with a single press of the shutter button. NOW I take too many shots to count!! lol... :)
Greg Reed
Great image!!!! v
Mick Anderson replied:
Thanks Greg! Fun and exciting to do, for sure :)
