I've done pencil drawings before, but this is my first paint-over-photo. The underlying photo is very light, perhaps only 25% dense, so most of what you see is my interpretation of the original scene in paint colors of my choosing and mixing. It was in this magical place where he met several fellow students from other parts of the country who would change the direction of his life by introducing Mick to nature, the mountains, the guitar and singing, fly fishing, writing music, hiking, and -- most importantly -- the Single Lens Reflex camera! He had a chance to play with Pentacon, Yashica, Pentax, Nikon and other brands, leading cameras of the day. It opened up a whole new way of looking at the world, and started a hobby that quickly grew into a passion that has stood the test of many years. His first “real” camera was a Yashica “Electro-35”...

I have to ask... is this digital painting? It looks like it is freehand, not digital. Whatever it is, it's great.
Mick Anderson replied:
This is done freehand on top of a light print. I then used the original to formulate the acrylic paints used on top. The only digital here is my photography of the finished painting :)
Heidi Smith
Excellent, Mick! f/v

Thanks my friend! I had fun creating it, for sure :)
