Artist's Description

This monument at Marias Pass along Highway 2 marks the continental divide in this part of northwest Montana. Moisture falling on the east side (to the right in this photo) ultimately flows to the Atlantic (or Artic) Ocean, while water flowing to the west drains into the Pacific Ocean. The Great Northern Railway was completed through this pass in 1891 completing a 60-mile corridor between the communities in East and West Glacier. You have to see this country to believe it! It is stunningly gorgeous :) The mountains you see are in Glacier National Park.
